The City of Dalhart provides a full-time Animal Control Officer who responds to animal complaints. Animal Control is responsible for enforcing the City ordinances and State laws regulating animal control functions.

Animal Control is responsible for answering citizen complaints involving animal nuisances, such as stray animals, barking, aggressive dogs, and animal bites.

Dalhart Animal Control is often dispatched to calls involving wild animals including skunks, opossums, raccoons, snakes or squirrels that come into the city from Rita Blanca Lake and surrounding pasture lands. Most wild animals are captured, relocated and released back into the natural habitat with the exception of skunks which are prone to carry rabies.

Animal Control has several traps available for loan to citizens of Dalhart to aid in the capture of nusiance animals.
